LANDSCAPE on audio-visuaalinen projekti, joka käsittelee Chileen muuttaneiden siirtolaisten sisäisiä ja ulkoisia maisemia ja kokemuksia, suhteessa heidän omaan maantieteelliseen alkuperäänsä.

Enrique Ramírez on syntynyt Chilessä vuonna 1979. Hänen molemmat esillä olevat teoksensa käsittelevät Chilen sotilasjuntan aikaa, joka sijoittui vuosiin 1973-1990.

Project LANDSCAPE is an audio-visual work based on the testimonies of immigrants who describe their internal and external landscapes and recollect with the emotions of their places of geographic origin.

Blossom teoksessa taiteilija on animoinut kädessä puristamansa muovipussit aukeamaan hitaasti eri muotoihin. Muovipussit muistuttavat kukkia luontoelokuvien hidastuksista. Taiteilija on kiinnostunut siitä, miten keinotekoinen materiaali, kuten muovi, voi saada orgaanisia ja elävää elämää muistuttavia muotoja ja ominaisuuksia.

In Blossom, plastic bags have been animated by squeezing them in hand. They are slowly unfolding into different shapes, much like flowers in time-lapse nature videos. The artist is interested in how synthetic materials like plastic can take on very organic and life-like qualities.

Jerikon ruusu (Selaginella Lepidophylla) on juureton epäkasvi, joka selviää  karuissakin olosuhteissa. Muista kasveista poiketen kyky liikkua on sille elinehto. Tuulen mukana pyörivä kuiva kuolleen näköinen kasvi muuttuu veden kohdattuaan elinvoimaiseksi.

Tämän kasvin elämä perustuu paikan etsimiselle ja sopivan lammikon löydettyään sen taival paikallistuu hetkeksi. Pölytettyään kasvi vetäytyy kokoon ja jakaa vaellustaan.

OLO (=state of mind/to be/feeling) describes how a seemingly dead plant rolling around in the desert winds, suddenly becomes vibrantly alive when encountering a water source.

The Rose of Jericho (Selaginella Lepidophylla) is a rootless resurrectionplant that can survive under the most harsh circumstances. Unlike the majority of plants, the ability to move is a living condition for the Rose of Jericho.

The life of this plant is based upon the search of fertile ground. Once locating a water vein, it will remain put for a while. After dispersing its seeds, it curls itself into a ball, and continues the journey.

Kuvan loputon etsiminen ja löytäminen pölystä ja valosta. Laajakuva tyhjän diaprojektorin heijastamasta valosta muuttuu lähikuvaksi projisoinnin pölystä ja roskasta ja taas takaisin laajaksi kuvaksi. ”Passage” on kuvaus teoksen syntyprosessista, näkemisestä, löytämisestä ja hetken kaappaamisesta.

Box. No. ”Elvis is dead” is a short film in shape of a personal ad. The film uses the language, the set phrases and the clichés of lonely hearts´ columns in newspapers or the Internet: A young man looking for a girlfriend or a wife describes himself and his everyday life. However, as the main character elaborates on his story in a way he believes will make him look attractive in the eyes of his wife-to-be, he gradually finds himself more and more trapped and entangled in the clichéd language he has to resort to. His story becomes more and more like fiction – full of ruthless lies, deceit, boisterous bragging and South American love serenades.
