VALENTINA BESEGHER & ALESSANDRO MASSOBRIO (IT): TRY HARD JOHNNY! [04:11 min, 2007]

Johnny is a child. Johnny can’t play the game. Everyone gets on his nerves. It’s a matter of changing, of altering your own face. With a smiley face, everything would be easier. But there is a contrast between inside and outside, an ambiguity of the memory. Memory is a play that makes fun of us and fixes rules through time and generations. The dialogues used in the film refer to the deafness which the communication is in. The voice is its own sound leaving slid down the sense into a vortex of references and dreamlike analogies.

VALENTINA BESEGHER (b. 1976, Milan, Italy) is a visual artist. Her focus is on the narration of the real world through the oniric decontextualization of its elements, on dream as a nonlinear and out of control tale of memory, using a slow and various iconographic language, and mixed media such as super8, 8mm, and photography.

ALESSANDRO MASSOBRIO (b. 1974, Turin, Italy) is a musician, journalist and field recordist. His main focus is on immersive nature-oriented soundscapes and sound clusters, on the physical aspect of sound and its power to reveal the material experience of spacetime, beyond the cognitive process. He works with guitar + electronics and microphones.
