Kuupuu rakentaa osittain improvisoituja äänikollaaseja, joissa soittimien virkaa toimittavat kasettinauhurit ja sanelukoneet, lelut, casiot, efektipedaalit, loopit ja samplet.

KUUPUU / JONNA KARANKA (FI)

SINCE 2002, Visual and Sound Artist Jonna Karanka (b.1978) has created sound works under the title of ‘Kuupuu’. This music has been released on Foxy Digitalis, Time-Lag Records (both US) and Dekorder (DE). Karanka has toured in the USA and Great Britain. Recently she was invited as the supporting act for Animal Collective’s European tour. Single performances have included the female sound artists’ LARM festival in Stockholm’s Kulturhuset, Avanto festival in Helsinki and the The Wire magazine’s 25h anniversary party in London.

Kuupuu plays partly improvised spooky boogie with tapes, loops, toys, cheap keyboards, stomp boxes and voices. Her live sets are time travels through unfound galaxies, deserted huts, nightmares, dirty doghouses, sweet cakes and cranberry lakes — letting the melodies find their own ways and settle or unsettle in the whole.
