Suomen Mediataideverkosto on uusi yhdistys, jonka tavoitteena on kehittää kotimaista mediataiteen kenttää ja sen kansainvälistymistä. Yhdistyksen perustajajäsenet ovat Alternative Party, AV-arkki, Cartes, FixC, MUU ry, m-cult ja Pikseliähky. Yhdistyksen väliaikaiset sivut on avattu osoitteessa www.mediataide.fi.

Verkoston on tarkoitus toimia kevyenä organisaationa, joka mahdollistaa eri toimijoiden välisen yhteistyön. Tämä on vaihtoehtoinen malli keskitetyille kulttuurivaihdon organisaatiolle. Mediataideverkoston toimintaa kehitetään ja jäsenkuntaa laajennetaan vaiheittain.

Yhdistyksen puheenjohtajuus vaihtuu vuosittain ja kiertää organisaatiossa, ensimmäisen vuoden puheenjohtajana toimii AV-arkki / Hanna Maria Anttila.

Mediataide on tunnustettu yhtenä Suomen kansainvälisesti menestyneimmistä taidemuodoista. Monialaisen, poikkitaiteellisen alan innovaatiovoima median ja teknologian kentillä on merkittävä. Mediataiteen piirissä tehty mediamuotojen ja liikkuvan kuvan kielen uudistaminen toimii inspiraatiolähteenä muille luoville aloille.

TRiCKSTR
an audiovisual environment with artificial personality

TRiCKSTR is an audiovisual environment. It consists of a large pixel light wall, loudspeaker, a pressure-sensitive and camera-monitored action arena, as well as generative and interactive sound and image software. In addition, this complex environment includes a voice that demonstrates the readiness to communicate whenever humans step into the action arena. When there is no longer anyone on the action floor, TRiCKSTR enters regenerative mode, i.e., lapses into contemplation about itself…

I do what, when I want, how I want to do it. I have been trying to see what sets apart my amazing interactions from my mediocre ones. I looked at all of them. All the crazy blowouts. Box. No. ”Elvis is dead” is a short film in shape of a personal ad. The film uses the language, the set phrases and the clichés of lonely hearts´ columns in newspapers or the Internet: A young man looking for a girlfriend or a wife describes himself and his everyday life. However, as the main character elaborates on his story in a way he believes will make him look attractive in the eyes of his wife-to-be, he gradually finds himself more and more trapped and entangled in the clichéd language he has to resort to. His story becomes more and more like fiction – full of ruthless lies, deceit, boisterous bragging and South American love serenades.

Cartes Kino sijaitsee Tapiolassa WeeGee-talon edustalla, jossa teokset taustaprojisoidaan Cartesista WeeGee-talon julkisivuun. Kinon kuukausittain vaihtuvassa ohjelmistossa nähdään kokeellisia ja oivaltavia videoteoksia. Kino avaa uuden kanavan mediataiteen esittämiseen ja tuo teokset julkiseen tilaan, lähelle yleisöä. Ohjelmisto toteutetaan yhteistössä AV-arkin kanssa.

Kino on avoinna tiistaista sunnuntaihin klo 11 – 20.30.

From there you will take a breathtakingly beautiful route to Didrichsen Art Museum, Helsinki Art Museum Meilahti, The Gallen-Kallela Museum and finally EMMA – Espoo Museum of Modern Art, Cartes and Gallery Aarni in WeeGee, Espoo.

Nox Borealis is an Arctic journey to the little known world of Aurora Borealis

In an unforgettable manner Nox Borealis brings together three diverse elements: the electroacoustic composition by Kaija Saariaho, live sounds of Aurora Borealis recorded by Professor Unto K. Laine and digital imagescapes by Jean-Baptiste Barriére.

Kaija Saariaho’s composition for Nox Borealis is based on her earlier work Lichtbogen (Arches of Light, 1986) an electroacoustic composition for nine musicians and a Sound Engineer. Saariaho was greatly inspired by Aurora Borealis while traveling through the Northern Hemisphere, beyond the Arctic Circle, together with Jean-Baptiste Barriére, where they marveled at the nocturnal display on the darkness of the night skies.

Professor Unto K. Laine, Helsinki University of Technology, Department of Signal Processing and Acoustics, has recorded a myriad of sounds through his study of the Aurora Borealis during the past eight years. These audio files serve primarily as scientific raw material for his research, that seeks to understand this little studied phenomenon, but at the same time they can also be used as authentic ambient recordings of the Northern nights.

From these two aural sources, two visions, we gather quite distinct ideas of Aurora Borealis. The first is subjective, it does not seek to describe the phenomenon; but takes inspiration from it as a beginning for creation.

The second being from its disposition, becomes more objective, by recording the phenomenon “as it is”.
To fully experience the whole installation: the Audience is invited to layback and enjoy, while synthesized moving images, projected on the ceiling of the space, completes the sense of the Northen Lights.
